APBSEA prides itself in providing not only a platform to empower biomedical science educators in the Asia Pacific, but also uplift biomedical education through the creation of opportunities for collaboration and knowledge-sharing. Currently, APBSEA has more than 200 members, and is led by an interim committee which collectively support and direct APBSEA's operations and capabilities.

Chen Zhi Xiong

A/Prof Chen Zhi Xiong is the current Assistant Dean (Education) of YLLSoM and an Associate Professor at the Department of Physiology. He completed his fellowship with Ludwig Cancer Research at Karolinska Institutet and conducts research on paediatric solid tumours at NUS Centre for Cancer Research (N2CR) and KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH). Deeply interested in professional development, he obtained his Master of Health Professions Education from Maastricht University and founded Asia-Pacific Biomedical Science Educators Association (APBSEA). He is also an Associate of the Centre for Medical Education (CenMED) and an Affiliate Member of the National University Cancer Institute, Singapore. Involved in the education of various health professions, A/Prof Chen is passionate about transdisciplinary learning through faculty development, medical education technology and inter-faculty collaborations. As Master of NUS LightHouse, he believes that student development through human communities and connections is essential to a complete university experience that cannot be replaced digitally.

Lai Siang Hui

A/Prof Lai Siang Hui is a Senior Consultant at the Department of Anatomical Pathology at Singapore General Hospital and an Associate Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School. His current appointments at SingHealth include the Chair for the Centralised Institutional Review Board and the Vice-Chair for Education for Pathology. He also serves as the Editor-in-Chief for the open access journal: Proceedings of Singapore Healthcare. His other affiliations and professional memberships include the President of the Medico-Legal Society of Singapore, faculty member of the Centre of Medical Ethics and Professionalism, Singapore Medical Association (SMA) and a member of the National Organ Transplant Unit under the Ministry of Health (MOH).

APBSEA Secretaries

Overseers of overall operations and management, APBSEA's secretaries ensure that the organization continues to smoothly function so as to deliver its mission of improving and enhancing biomedical education in the Asia-Pacific.

APBSEA Treasurers

The financial administration of APBSEA is regulated by our treasurers who ensure that the operations and programmes conducted under APBSEA are financially sustainable and tenable. They also devise the financial strategy of APBSEA and advise on fund-raising matters.

Publicity & Outreach

The Publicity & Outreach team facilitates the promotion of APBSEA's vision and mission, with the goal of recruiting new members, developing new knowledge and capabilities, and connecting biomedical education experts across the Asia Pacific.

Program & Oversight

APBSEA's Program & Oversight division collates and deliver programs aimed at empowering biomedical science educators while monitoring feedback and program effectiveness.

Ordinary Committee

Our Ordinary Committee provides support for the overall affairs of APBSEA, while ensuring that the duties of its members are well-executed, and in accordance with established policies and measures.
